Never Let Go of Your Dreams or Goals: Compliments are Kryptonite, Doubters are Fuel

Have you ever had someone doubt your abilities? Even subtly?

A friend, family member, a work mate and yes, maybe even someone you look up to.

The winter after my senior season I had one of these experiences I'll never forget. A conversation with my college linebacker coach, Steve Telander is a good example.

Ever since I was a young chap, I always wanted to play professional football.

In a discussion with T (as I called him) regarding playing at the next level he felt it his duty, to sit me down and have a talk. I wasn't getting the calls I expected from pro teams to play professionally. He felt it was his duty to break the news to me in a soft way by telling me a story. Story telling was one of 'T's' favorite ways of teaching.

Essentially, he was easing me down from perch of playing at the next level. And maybe to hang up my cleats and move on with my life.

You know, soften the blow a bit. Little did he know; he did the opposite.

Here's the story he shared with me.

There were three micro-organisms clinging to a rock in the middle of the Amazon river.

One day one micro organism said to the others. "Where we currently live is great but I want to explore new lands and live somewhere else. I hear just down the way is a wonderful place to live filled with lush vegetation and beautiful life forms."

When the other two heard this, they were appalled. No one ever left their rock - ever.

In anger one responded by saying, "Why would you ever leave this place? We have it so well. A beautiful view of the Amazon seeing for thousands of millimeters in all directions, a good source of food everywhere. plus, let's say you let go of the rock, I heard there are several plankton and other horrible creatures that will eat you up. If you get past them, their is a terrible waterfall that you are surely not to survive if you go over."

The adventurous micro said, "Well those are the chances I'll just have to take."

Night fell and a few days went by. Nothing more was said regarding the subject. Then one morning the two micros looked around and didn't see the third. He had let go of the rock.

Cut to the adventurous micro floating down the river. Yes, he had let go and let the current take him down the river.

What he discovered as the current quickly moved him down the river was a plush new greenery. The color was vibrant and new. He passed by beautiful coral colored fish.

There were nothing up the food chain that devoured him, no water fall. He was so happy he had let go of the rock and instantly began enjoying his new life.

"vince," coach T said, "Maybe it's time to let go of the rock?"

"Rock, rock, rock..." I can still hear those words in my head today and they send chills down my spine.

This shook my foundation because here I looked up to T and respected him greatly. This was the last person I thought I'd hear it from.

At that very moment, I discovered something about myself I never knew.

This talk energized me. I don't know how you are with people doubting you but when I hear someone doubt my goals, it stirs something inside.

It's fuel for my fire. Compliments are the opposite they're like Kryptonite for me.

I smiled at T and thank him for all his help over the last year.

That summer I got a call (out of the blue) to play professionally over in germany.

Unlike the advice given to me I HELD on to my vision of playing after college and ironically similar to that micro-organism, I discovered new lands both internally and externally. plus, I met exotic and interesting people and ate delicious new foods. And made a great living doing so.

It was a defining part of my development.

let people doubt you. It's okay. Make it your fuel for your fire. Les Brown says, "I make no my vitamin."

When you have this kind of attitude you become a man or woman on a mission.

This is easy to do when you hold a vision in your head so clear you could vividly pull it up on your radar screen- literally and figuratively.

If you think and imagine a new life this builds your foundation for success.

Silence the critics and go after your dream - even if they are people you trust and respect.

Then one day you can write an email about them and you'll enjoy typing every word in your message.

Take Your Home or Business Phone With You When You Travel

Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone service uses a broadband Internet connection (DSL or cable) instead of the Bell System circuits to carry your voice to any telephone in the world via the Internet. If you're not familiar with VoIP phone service, you'll be interested in this new technology that's giving traditional phone companies a run for their money.

Not only is VoIP phone service reliable, it costs 50-60 percent less than conventional telephone service. And most VoIP services give you free long distance calling throughout North America from any phone in the USA.

When you order VoIP phone service you receive a small "Analog Telephone Adapter" box that connects your telephone to your high speed Internet connection. This little adapter box, about the size of a paperback book, is linked to your phone number. Unlike a conventional telephone, where the phone number is fixed in place where the copper wires terminate in your home or office, with VoIP "the phone number is in the adapter box."

This opens up some fascinating possibilities.

Imagine that you are traveling away from home or the office, on vacation or on a business trip. As you pack your bags, why not slip that little adapter box into your luggage? It weighs just a few ounces and looks something like a computer modem. Remember: that adapter box contains your phone number. So wherever you take it, you're taking your phone number with you!

Now you've arrived at your hotel in a distant city perhaps even in a foreign country. Most hotels and motels today offer high speed Internet access, and that's all you need to hook up the adapter box. If you carry a laptop computer with you, that's fine. But you don't even need to turn it on to use VoIP phone.

Sit down at the desk and connect your VoIP adapter box to the hotel's high speed Internet connection. Wait about 45-seconds while the box gets ready. Reach over, unplug the hotel telephone from the wall and plug it into your adapter box. Pick up the phone and behold you've got dial tone.

Because your long distance is free, you can call anyone in the US or Canada without toll charges, as long as you're in the USA or Canada. Need to check on the spouse or the kids at home? Dial them up. Need to call the boss? A customer? Dial away. You've got free phone service, courtesy of the hotel's high speed Internet connection.

But there's more. Because you're carrying the adapter box with you, your friends, family and others can call you at your normal phone number and you can receive the call in your hotel room. Folks back in your home city don't even have to spend money on a long distance call.

You'll recall that the FCC ruled a year or two ago that phone numbers must be "portable." That ruling led to a rush of people who chose, for example, to move their home phone numbers to their cell phones, abandoning traditional landline service. That "portability ruling" saved people millions of dollars in landline service fees.

Carrying your VoIP adapter box with you is an entirely different kind of portability, and it's unique to VoIP phone service. One of our associates based in Atlanta actually carried an adapter box to Moscow, Russia, where he plugged it into a broadband Internet connection. He proceeded to dial an Atlanta number to speak to his wife from eight time zones away with no long distance charges whatsoever.

The telephone industry is evolving and VoIP services are leading the way. If you've not yet experienced the flexibility, economy and quality service you can get from VoIP, perhaps it's time to jump on the VoIP bandwagon and join the evolution.

The Evolution of Video Game Systems

I used to be an arcade nut. I spent most of my time in the local video games hot spots to play the latest fighting, shooting, and racing games. I would also frequent the video game stores at the mall with my friends. We would compete against each other in popular arcade games like Street Fighter II and mortal Kombat. video games were a teenagers favorite pastime back in the early 90s. I must have spent a fortune in quarters in those video games machine.

Its almost the same when I would tell customers how much they had spent on video rentals so far. I always find this quite amusing. The customers first reaction would usually be a wince; then they would snicker at the ridiculousness of it all, but finally most of them went home ticked off. I think some of them wanted to have their money back. Thats just the way people are. What they dont know wont hurt them. Well, most of the time anyway. Nevertheless, when it comes to arcade and video games systems, millions of people were hooked long ago. The only significance nowadays is that modern video games systems for homes have become more advanced and sophisticated.

Arcades nowadays are not as popular as it was during my time. Most kids these days are investing in video games system of their own. Systems like game Cube, Playstation 2, and xbox are very popular. Why would kids go to local arcades and to spend their money on video games, when they can simply receive a system of their own during their birthday or at Christmas? Modern personal video games are not very expensive and most kids can own portable versions like the Gameboy Advance Sp. The advancement in gaming makes personal video games more fun and exciting.

video games during my childhood and teenage years seem prehistoric when compared to contemporary video games systems. The first system I owned when I was in elementary school was an Atari. Then later down the road, video games systems evolved into nintendo. These games are obsolete in comparison to modern systems, but they represent the evolution of video games into their present status. This evolution will only continue and you can expect more exciting developments to video games systems. Hop online and discover the latest games, models, and accessories.
